Amakozak; está situado en la ribera izquierda del río Amakuzak, el más caudaloso de Morelos. Su etimología viene de ama-tl, amate "ficus benjamina o árbol de papel"; Koztik, "color amarillo"; a-tl "agua" y k, contracción de ko, adverbio de "lugar", y significa: "En el río de amarillos amates”. Algunos escritores le aplicaban el topónimo de Amakoztitla, pero la partícula ti, que quiere decir: "entre o en medio", no se justifica porque dichos amates no rodean al pueblo.
